Van Gogh and Hiroshige have both left their mark on art and their era. The Japanese artist, relatively and unjustly unknown in Europe, greatly inspired the work of the Dutch painter. The exhibitions which are respectively devoted to them at the Pinacothèque throw the spotlight on this major influence.

Van Gogh and Hiroshige: a unique approach

The two exhibitions being held at the Pinacothèque until 17th March 2013 give visitors a successive and complementary insight into the artistic universe of Van Gogh and Hiroshige.

"Dreaming of Japan" brings together around forty works by the Dutch master. "The Art of Travel" is the first exhibition devoted to the Japanese master ever to be staged in France. By going from one to the other, the visitor can clearly understand the impact of Hiroshige’s expertise on the way in which Van Gogh painted his famous landscapes from 1887.
