Passionate about Opera? Invite it into your home

During this period of uncertainty and quarantine, culture is adapting to the new paradigm with museums and performance venues bringing you new ways to enjoy what they have to offer! Today we are honouring the Opera Bastille, one of our proud neighbours, only a few minutes' walk from our hotel!

The Opéra Bastille; an outstanding cultural venue

Inaugurated in 1989, this modern opera house designed by the Uruguayan-Canadian architect Carlos Ott has a 2,745-seat auditorium (one of the largest in the world in terms of capacity), a 500-seat amphitheatre and a 230-seat studio theatre as well as workshops in which sets and costumes are made for various productions. Unlike many older theatres, the auditorium of the Opéra Bastille was designed so that every seat offers an unrestricted view of the stage, while the acoustics are equally well-considered. The building also has a dance school where the future stars of opera and ballet are trained.
Backstage tours can be taken between performances throughout the year.

Subscriptions for the 2020/2021 season are also available in the form of various options:

- The free subscription, which offers at least 4 shows from the schedule,
- The discovery subscription; 3 packages of 4 shows at preferential rates,
- The family subscription, with a 50% reduction for children under 18,
- As well as many options ranging in price from €48 to €75 and à la carte subscriptions for prestigious evenings.

There are various ways to subscribe: online, by mail or directly at the box office when the Opéra Bastille reopens to the public.

The Opera at your fingertips

Due to the health crisis that we are now going through, theatres, cafes, and other places of sharing and meeting have had to close their doors. The corridors and stages of the opera houses are sadly deserted but... don’t worry, because now you can invite their productions into your personal space and enjoy them in your living room or hotel room!
Online and on VOD, you can find many ballets and operas in which to escape the world’s current troubles, as well as discover great works such as Cinderella and Don Pasquale.
The Opéra National de Paris also has other material available on its website.
You are invited to support culture by participating in a project (new productions, tours, schools) or adopt a seat from the Palais Garnier!

The Hotel Marais Bastille boasts the ideal location

We are fortunate to be situated in the heart of the capital, a few steps from the famous Place de la Bastille and its eclectic and lively district. Here you’ll find many bars and restaurants (hopefully reopening soon) as well as various art galleries and fashion boutiques for shopping enthusiasts. Of course, the Opera is at the centre of this dynamic district and we strongly advise you not to miss it.
