Don Giovanni at Paris Bastille, a staging by Michael Haneke
Created in 1787 at the National Theatre of Prague, Don Giovanni Giovanni is an opera in two acts and played in Italian, whose action takes place in Sevilla in the 17th century. This« dramma giocoso » (joyful drama) repeats the myth of the punished seducer. Written by da Ponte, Don Giovanni is considered as one of the major operas composed by Mozart, and of any opera.
The Opera Bastille takes this great classic back, under the musical direction of Philippe Jordan, and staged by Michael Haneke. The soloists Peter Mattei, Paata Burchuladze, Patricia Petibon, Veronique Gens... transport us into the decor of a modern city, where money generates various transgressions.
